We rolled out a capital campaign last week and its been going great until yesterday when we noticed a horrible problem. 

When someone submits a contribution with the same last name as an existing contact, the information entered into the contribution profile overwrites the existing record. 

I have checked the merge and duplicate rules (for individuals) to make sure the threshold is high enough.  I have also tried to change the dedupe rule on the profile edit page (although I believe contribution dedupe rules are based on the default rules and not based on this profile setting).

Help please!  What am I missing?  We are going to have to stop the campaign and move to another system since each contribution could potentially merge with an existing contact.

As I was doing the research for answering #1 I discovered there was a 2nd individual strict rule, set to default which had low threshhold for last name. I deleted this and the issue is resolved.

Thanks for the quick response... sorry it ended up just being an oversight.  I'm glad that I learned that the contribute merge behaviour relies on the default individual dedupe rules.
