Events Don't Display on Wordpress
December 27, 2012, 12:44:00 am
So I've read several other threads with people having the same issue, but I haven't seen a resolution to it.  I create an event, but when I go to the link it defaults to a regular Wordpress page.

http://mor.mktgdocs.info/?page=CiviCRM&q=civicrm/event/info&id=8&reset=1

I have WP 3.5 installed on a demo with CiviCRM 4.2.6.  Nothing else is installed other than a premium theme.

I've used CiviCRM on Joomla before, but for this particular site I wanted to go with WP for a couple of reasons, one of which is that this particular theme is very close to the way I want it as in and I wouldn't have to do too much modifications to it.

It's the theme that is causing the problem.  When I switch to Twenty Eleven it works; however, I noticed there are a couple of weird things when I go to the event and registration page.  It shows the most recent posts below it.

To recap:

1.  With the Lucid theme, it just flat out doesn't work, it goes to another page.
2.  With a default theme, it works; but it displays it as a home or category page.

Am I supposed to be setting a particular page as a "container" for CiviCRM to display its information in?

The Lucid theme has a bunch of templates for custom post types as well as pages.  Is that part of the issue?

Okay.  Doing more searching, I found this part of the wiki

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC42/Displaying+Public+Forms+in+WordPress+Frontend+Sites

So I created a test page:

http://mor.mktgdocs.info/test/

I tried to edit the permalink to include the Civicrm event details, it stripped the operators out.

I tried a custom permalink plugin.  The same, thing it converted the operators to safe html.

So then I added the simple 301 redirect plugin, and redirected the test url to one with the appended event details.  That works.

Is there a more streamlined way to do this that I'm missing?

Awesome!

Although, the first time I read it I thought it meant I had to create a custom page template for the theme file.  I created one, uploaded it in my child theme, specified the template name in the civicrm settings and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working.

It wasn't until I read the case/issue note referenced at the bottom that I realized that it was just a regular Wordpress "page" created in the backend, and that title was used in the civicrm settings.
