"You do not have permission to access this page." - solved

I had this problem on an upgrade and found help here that said to update my Joomla Access Control settings. (Administer -> Uses and Permissions -> Joomla Access Control).

This solved my problem, but I wasn't sure if I gave too much access to the public. I also wondered why a default usable set of permissions was not installed by default. So I did a fresh install on another site - and it has a default set of permissions installed. So ... if you upgrade from 1.5.X you will most likely want to set your permissions to allow for:
  • access uploaded files
  • profile listing and forms
  • access all custom data
  • make online contributions
  • civimail - unsubscribe and unsubscribe to pages
  • Events - register for events
  • Events - view event info
  • Events - view event participants

I had originally given the public much more access than this.

More details needed. What URL are you trying to access? Are you logged in to front-end? With what 'role'? Is this a new problem on existing install or new install or ??????
