Many More Bounces Than Should Be...

We just started using CiviMail for our mailings, and I'm getting an odd result from the bounce reports.

We about a little over 5000 people on our mailing list, and yet roughly half of them are coming up bounces consistently, even though I am sure a good number of those are actually working emails. In fact, some of the emails for our organization are coming up as bounces, even though I know they are correct.

On the other hand, half of the emails are working perfectly.

I've tried two mailings, and it is the same emails that are coming up bounces, too, so it is not a random thing. Something seems to be wrong with those particular addresses...

I found this message in one of the logs. It repeats over and over again during the time the mailer is running, so I wonder if this is a clue. The problem is I don't know what to look for. Can someone help me?

In the boucne report for the mailings, all of the bounces are listed as "Syntax" types.

Have you looked at the actual processed emails back in your bounce catching account? 

If you read the emails, you should be told the reason for the bounce and may be able to figure out more.
