import/setting for "use for bulk mail" checkbox
January 04, 2013, 09:40:38 am
Our contacts have multiple emails.  We want to send bulk emails through civi to all of the contacts' addresses.  This means that we need some way of mass altering the "bulk mailing" checkbox field that is with each email address.

I don't see a setting for this and I can't see any import field that governs the bulk mail setting on individual email addresses.  Right now, I can only set addresses to as bulk mail recipients manually by editing the user and clicking the checkbox for bulk mailing, but this is impractical for the number of users we have.

Also, if this is governed by a setting somewhere and can't be imported like other fields, it has to let us manually uncheck the bulk mail box if we determine that the address is non-working and not override that manual alteration.

Sorry if this is a dumb question -- I don't have much experience with civicrm.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, this functionality doesn't exist in the "vanilla" import.  Related to this is the often-requested feature to be able to set an e-mail address as primary during import.  You can do it via a custom import using the API.  I often make updates directly to the database - which is very poor practice, but I feel OK with it in my use case.

This is a tragedy of the commons, unfortunately - the problem keeps coming up for folks, and the workaround isn't awesome, but it's not SO much work that anyone feels motivated to take on patching the import.
