Custom data not showing up after 1.6 -> 1.7 upgrade

I have recently upgraded from civicrm 1.6 to 1.7 (and drupal 4.7 to 5.1) and custom data is no longer showing up for my contacts. The custom data sets that I had created in 1.6 are not showing up on the edit or view pages, nor are new custom data sets. The data is still all in the database. The custom data fields are all set for the correct contact types, so it seems that I'm missing something obvious here.

Any suggestions?

Colin - In 1.7 custom data fields are "permissioned" either by Drupal access control or (more granularly) by CiviCRM ACLs. If you're running under Drupal, the easiest way to deal with this is to give "access all custom data" permission to the appropriate Drupal roles - as noted in the upgrade doc:
