Civicrm plugin not visible in plugins from admin screen
January 07, 2013, 08:40:47 pm
Download and unzipped everything (4.2.6 for Wordpress) into the plugins folder.

Everything looks ok in the directory, but when I go to install Civicrm on the plugins page (<sitename>/wp-admin/plugins.php), it's nowhere to be found.

The only thing that didn't go perfectly is a small error I got on the unzip command:

Quote
gzip: stdin: decompression OK, trailing garbage ignored
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I don't think this is related since I had the same problem earlier when I tried manually uploading to the directory via ftp.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

What website host are you using?  What control panel do you use to administer your website?

I've installed CiviCRM on our website (HostGator - cPanel), on my test server (TurnKey Linux - Webmin) and on my PC (Windows - Wamp Server & XAMPP).  I've never encountered a similar problem.  The CiviCRM plugin always appears in the plugin page once I extract it.  I also haven't encounter errors extracting the plugin.

Using Dreamhost for both host/control panel.

I had previously installed this locally without any glitches.

in general, we dont recommend shared hosting for civicrm

i dont think the unzip error is minor, i would fix that before trying to debug further and ensure that the unzip / untar finishes without error

The only thing that didn't go perfectly is a small error I got on the unzip command:

That would indeed appear to be the problem--I would ask your host about that.
