Custom profile not showing for online event registration

I've been searching the Internet and this forum for hours.  I have also thoroughly read the CiviCRM documentation.  I've found some forum topics on this subject, but most are either dead ends (no responses), or the author admitted to making a mistake.  The problem I have is that I have created custom profiles with the intent they be used on the online registration pages for events (by selecting the name of the profile from the "Include Profile" dropdown on the Online Registration tab).

However, the profiles do not show in these dropdown lists.  I know from other forum posts on this subject that you can't mix certain field types, which will cause the profile to not be shown as an option.  However, I can't get a profile to show AT ALL, no matter what fields I choose.  I have some profiles that do show up, so I'm not sure how I got that to work before.  I even tried duplicating profiles which are working, and the duplicated (and renamed) profiles do not show up in the list.

So:
  • Why won't a custom profile show in the dropdown for an event?
  • Why do other custom profiles work, but when duplicated, the duplicate doesn't show?

Hello MaffooClock,

Go to Administer-->Customize Data and Screens-->Profiles. Find your custom profile and select Fields. Now scan through the list of fields, making sure that the visibility of each one is Public or Public Pages. If you find one that has a different Value for visibility, edit it and change the visibility to Public. Select save, and you should be able to see your profile.

Holy fudge, that was it!  How could I have missed that?  I'm pretty good at figuring things out as I go along, but I've spent HOURS AND HOURS on this and got nowhere.  Thanks!
