Attempt to download returns <invalid checksum for file "> - Some progress
January 14, 2013, 08:38:10 am
I'm attempting to add CiviCRM-4.2.4 to Drupal-7.18 running on the latest WAMP server. I have tried several methods, none of which result in Civi showing up in the list of modules. Some Civi add-ons download fine, although they cannot be enabled without Civi.
When I follow the instructions and try to download from the Drupal modules page, using the URL in the instructions (http://sourceforge.net/projects/civicrm/files/civicrm-latest/4.2.x/civicrm-4.2.x-drupal.tar.gz/install, with the 4.2.x references changed to 4.2 or 4.2.4), I get an error message that says Cannot extract temporary://update-cache-d37c3a3e/install, not a valid archive.
When I do as suggested and drop the /install part of the URL, I get a message that says Invalid checksum for file " (including the final ").
When I go directly to SourceForge and download the latest and then try to use the Browse option in the Install Modules block, I get nothing at all -- no error messages and no Civi in the Modules list.
++++++++++++++++++++
Some progress: I tried copying the link off the SourceForge download button and pasting it into the Drupal Install Module block --- didn't work. The link location included "...latest version", rather than a specific number.
I tried just clicking on that button, downloading it to my HD  (incidentally, the latest minor version is 4.2.7, which may account for some of my earlier difficulties), and 7-Zip extracting it to /Sites/All/Modules (where all the Drupal-installed modules seem to have ended up. No joy.
I looked at the folder and found that Civi was indeed there, but still compressed. I extracted that to /Sites/All/Modules and it showed up! However, it still needs to be installed (like populating its settings file) and I am running into error messages there.
My stomach is also sending error messages, so I will continue after lunch.
What am I doing wrong here?

Putting it in sites/all/modules and extracting is correct. 4.2.7 is also the correct version to install.

The next step is to install as per the documentation here:

Thanks, Hershel. The instructions you referred me to assume you are using the Drupal Install Module, but did give the URL for the Install script that Drupal did not seem to have right. Once I got to the Civi Installer page, everything went fairly smoothly (although getting there required PHPmyadmin, and getting that to work last week was a major pain). I now have two beautiful green bars on the Installer page and it says it is installing, but may take a few minutes.
Thanks again.
