I'm trying to figure out how to make memberships go into a status (or some other indicator) so that on a scheduled basis I can extract all of the members in two categories:

1. Anyone who is a "new" registration and I have not previously mailed a welcome packet and membership card
2. Anyone who has renewed a membership since the last time I ran the process

I was going to do this by using the "New" status and, when I extracted the data, change the status to Current.   However - if you renew a member they're converted to Current?

My goal is to setup a backend query against the DB to do this and send the data to someone as a CSV on a bi-weekly basis.  If I can somehow put a Renewal into a state other than "Current" that would be ideal but I'm not exactly sure how to do that, unless the trick is to use the automated statuses to always go into "New" and "Renewal" and only manually go into Current?   Maybe I just figured this out typing it out?
