Export field length truncated from 1020 to 255 characters

Hi,

I am dealing with a database where some multiple-choice custom fields have some seriously long field values, resulting in that the maximum field length has been set to 1020.

This seems to be fine inside CiviCRM, and no data is lost. However, when I now tried to export the data to edit in and reimport with a bit more reasonable field values, it seems like CiviCRM truncates the data to 255 characters, leading to lost data on export. Am I missing some obvious setting, or is this an issue?

Problem solved for my part - I did not realize that CiviCRM exports the labels rather than the values. I shortened the labels so that all together was less than 255 characters and could export them without any problems in that way.

However, I must say that I find this behaviour somewhat counterintuitive...
