Multiple emails on registration

Whenever a new member is registered, I get four separate, identical notification emails.  Does any body know what causes this and how I can fix it?

You'll need to describe the situation in more detail. What do you mean by "whenever a new member is registered"? Is this Drupal new user registration? A membership signup/contribution page? A CiviCRM profile form? What CMS and version of CiviCRM are you using, etc.

Whenever a new CiviCRM contact is added, there is a notification e-mail that is sent out.  It comes from CiviCRM, not Drupal.  I get it whether the user is entered through the membership signup form (contribution page) in CiviCRM or the add user process in Drupal (the profile form is displayed there).  I'm using Drupal 5.7 with CiviCRM 1.9.

I'm assuming you've entered one or more email addresses in the Profile(s) Advanced Settings - Notify when profile form is submitted? field... Not sure why you'd be getting multiple copies, unless you have multiple email addresses in that field (or multiple profiles in the user registration and membership signup pages). ??

I discovered that I did have my e-mail address entered twice in the Profile Advanced Settings, and that has helped - some.  Now I'm down to getting two messages, instead of 4.  So it appears as though I'm getting two for each time an address is entered in the Advanced Settings.  Shouldn't I only be getting one?

Yes, you should only be getting one. If you're not already running 2.0, you could upgrade and see if the problem goes away. We haven't had any other reports of this problem - and unfortunately you can not recreate on the demo site since we've suppressed any outbound email from that site to prevent spam generation.

You'll probably need to check your mail logs and/or add some debugging to figure out what's happening. :-(
