Buying a membership for your kids if you are already a member -- HOW?
January 24, 2013, 10:05:36 am
So I've got my first civicrm rollout going.  I've had to do a bit of custom programming to make it work the way I want as far as a customized dashboard.

Everything is really smooth, very powerful product you have with civicrm.
CIVICRM latest version 4.1
Joomla 2.5 latest version

Here is my problem.

test@test.com is logged in, he has an annual membership.  He wants to now purchase a brand new membership for his son, but when i go to the membership contribute page it basically just amounts to editing / renewing the exisitng membeserhip for test@test.com, I'm sure this occurs because of the matching going on in the table civicrm_uf_match table.  How can i get him to buy a "new" membership for his son -- family memberships are not an option in this scenario because we do not offer them.
Is the only option to have him log and hit the membership page as an unlogged in user in Joomla?

Best Regards,

David

I think there has been discussion in the past about extending the 'on behalf of' concept so that it could work for other individuals and not just Organisations.
Also worth research the blog about 'The Monthly' where we did get it working so people could buy 'gift' memberships but I don't have the details to hand.
But nothing out of the box afaik

Maybe this post was part of it http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,26875

You can check the work done for event registration if you have already registered

Give the user a link to register a new member. However i think there is some support needed in the code for this, but i suspect the changes are general enough that might be a good core addition
