Will 2.0 run on mySQL4?
March 15, 2008, 09:40:16 am
Greetings.  I'm caught in a tragic cycle with civiCRM on jooma 1.x.  The client is currently running civiCRM 1.9 and has issues with civiMail that make it unusable.  The only solution to the issues is to upgrade to civiCRM 2.0, which I'd love to do, but the host is still on mySQL 4.  An upgrade is imminent (< 3 months), but in the meantime my client can't do mailings.

I know the system requirement for the 2.0 version is mySQL 5.0, but my only short-term hope is that it will work on 4.0.  Does any have any knowledge of or experience with that configuration?

Thanks in advance,

Lou

1. v2.0 does not support mysql4.x. I dont know if it will work or not

2. can u be more specific about the civimail issues u r having? v2.0 does not have a lot of civimail fixes, probably just a few minor fixes

3. Most CiviMail users using Shane's CiviSMTP service are running on v1.9 or earlier.

Wow, thanks for the fast response.  It's a production environment, so I don't think I'm going to risk it based on your "I don't know if it will work..."  response (and make no mistake -- I appreciate the honesty. :-)

I don't recall the specific issues -- something to do with authentication and how or where Joomla stores passwords.  Research in the forums eventually led to a known issue that was being resolved in 2.0.  Since the site was new and a huge improvement from what they had before, it seemed a small sacrifice to wait for that release, not realizing it would have other dependencies.

I'm not aware of Shane's CiviSMTP service, but I'll go look into it.  Maybe that will work!

Thanks again,

Lou
