Mailing report numbers mismatch

Just spotted a weird mismatch with mailing reports that someone might be able to explain. Using CiviCRM version 4.1.6 on Drupal 6. Recently ran a bulk mailing to 500 contacts.

The CiviMail report tells me that it logged 151 "tracked opens".
The Mail Summary Report however reports "opened" as 494 - a massive difference (and just a fe minutes ago it was reporting 485 (and the mailing was sent a week ago). I can only assume that the two reports are calculating their numbers from different source data. Which is the more accurate?

I understand that any 'tracked opens' type figure is only ever indicative given the nature of the issue, but I do tend to use it for trend information.

I assume the number for Tracked Opens in the delivery summary refers to the number of unique opens. If you follow the link Tracked Opens you get an overview of each registered open. The number entries in this list corresponds with the number you get in the Mail Summary Report.

Many thanks cray146. Most helpful - I'd never noticed that. Now it makes sense that there are more 'opens' than there are recipients.
