Custom Reports -- How to include tags as output criteria

I'm looking for documentation or advice on how to output tags on contact records in something like the Constituent Detail report. I'm familiar with creating custom reports, but have not found documentation showing how to reference the tags object. I haven't developed on CiviCRM since the 3.x versions, so I might just be looking in the wrong place. Thanks in advance.
