Payments Processing but not recording

I recently upgraded to the current version of CiviCRM, and have been in the first week of production testing.

Today, I had two members using IE who said the payment section of the memberhship join/renew pages did not present, but rather had the following error:


"Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
The system did not record payment details for this payment and so could not process the transaction. Please report this error to the site administrator."

When I entered the transactions manually under the Membership tab, they do not appear on the respective member's Contribution tab, and does not come up in the search results in Find Contributions.  However, when I attempt to manually generate a contribution in the member record, Civi responds that the Transaction Number is already in the database.

The transactions made it all the way through to the payment processor

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

What is your payment processor ? There was a report just today of this same problem with PayPal: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,27580.0/topicseen.html but I don't know if it's related.
