some trouble using civicrm event ical feed
February 04, 2013, 08:34:39 pm
This is an awkward situation.  I'm trying to use someone else's drupal/civicrm calendar and I can't get it to work.  Since I have no control over the source any possible solution has to be on my reader side, not the emitter side.

The site I'm interested in the Nonprofit Association of Oregon.  They're running a drupal site, almost certainly 6, and civicrm 3.4.8.  The feed is here: http://www.nonprofitoregon.org/training_convening/event_calendar

I'm trying to import it into our Atlassian Confluence team calendar (ACTC), but it doesn't accept the feed. (no error message beyond "Can't read the feed").  I can't get Thunderbird or Google to accept it either (neither give useful diagnostics).  I CAN get it to work with my Evolution email/calendar, but ACTC won't sync with Evolution.   Also, the RSS feed is rejected by firefox for encoding problems.

I'm thinking Evolution has some sort of corrective filter on the iCal feed to correct syntax or format.  I noticed lots of different topic threads here about ical feed problems over the years and Civicrm versions.  If there are only one or a few recurring problems with output format or encoding I can write a filter to fix them.   I'd appreciate hearing anyone's insights on whether this is a practical solution for this problem, or is it a bottomless can of worms I should run from?
