Is there any way to extract which groups the current user is a member of?

I'm trying to implement some ACL workarounds and one thing I need to do is figure out which groups the current logged in user is a member of. I would like to get this list and then assign one of the groups to an ACL role.

I've been looking at the API and trying to find some way to do this, but I've been coming up with nothing.

Has anyone done this before? Or does anyone have any pointers?

Cheers,

Conor
