Registering a Team

My organization has a paid for event in which we want teams to register. A team can have 3 - 8 members.
There are two types of teams. Type A and Type B.

Type A pays $3000 + $300 per individual. Type B pays $4000 + $400 per individual.

I can not for the life of me figure out how this would be set up. We really want to use CiviCRM but it doesn't seem to have a team function.

Ideas?

"Team" can have a lot of meanings.   But you are right there is no team management with CiviCRM, meaning that a "leader" cannot create a team and "invite team members" and people cannot "join a team".  No functionality like that exists.

However, we do have Price Sets.  Click that link then scroll down to "Complex event fees with price sets"

A base registration cost of $3000 or $4000 could be the first question for your event.

Additionally there another question which is a number box where they type in the number of team members and this is multiplied by $300 or $400.

As Stoob said plus you can look at webform-civicrm for an interface where Contact X can create Team Y including people P, Q and R by using relationships eg
- Team Leader is (for X <-> Y)
- Team colleague is (for X <-> P, Q, R) or
- Team member is (for Y <-> P, Q, R)

or somesuch - it might help you
