I have upgraded to 4.3 a2 using a production data set, some questions
February 15, 2013, 10:23:54 pm
I was able to upgrade a fairly complex production database to 4.3 alpha 2 on my development server. ( only one very minor upgrade issue reported at: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-11905 )

So far so good! Its helpful to see the changes introduced on real-life, complex data.

My questions so far:
     - I am unable to configure any new SMS providers, the list of options for SMS provider types is empty.  I tried sending a SMS message via the SMS provider that had been set up in version 4.2.7, but this failed because of a reported missing extension.   I have searched the extension directory at http://civicrm.org/extensions but do not see any SMS providers.

    - Its great that the CVV code can be made optional for back-office entered credit card transactions.  However, the placement of the configuration option on the page "Administer ... System Settings ... Resource URLs" seems like an odd choice and would be hard to find for a typical administrator.

   - As a geeky person, I really like the new "Quick Search" feature where I can search on phone, external ID, etc.  However, the predefined text "Name/email" that is in the box where the user is expected to type will confuse a non-techie end user. (IMHO) .

Also, this feature does not seem to exist anywhere else that "quick search" for contacts exists. ( ie within the new activity screen for assigning activities, or who the activity is with, adding a relationship, or on any of the search screens like "Find Members", "Find Contributions", etc. )    What is particularly confusing is the fields for adding contacts within the "Create new Activity" screen are not consistent with any old style quick search fields. ( ie on the create new activity screen, when adding contacts I do not see the city, state, or phone number as part of the auto-complete like I do in the rest of the system. )

Re quicksearch: That text ("Name/Email") is an html5 "placeholder" attribute, so all those non tech people you speak of probably won't even see it b/c their browser is too old ;)

But seriously, it reflects the option chosen (so if you selected "email" then it changes the placeholder text to that, etc). I suppose we could have the initial value be "Find contacts" would that be more clear?

The quicksearch feature was contributed by a community member and is sort of a POC. It lacks any configuration options (you can't turn it off or add/remove selectable fields) and as you noted it's only been implemented in one place. So yes there's room for improvement.

deepaks:

Can we add this to upgrade script warning. If folks were using clickatell SMS, then they need to install from extension

also maybe a helpful message on the Send SMS pages about installing from extension
