Is it possible to create a Parent-Child relationship between events
February 24, 2013, 04:43:32 pm
Hi guys,

I'm working on a CiviCRM implementation for a new customer, and an interesting question arose: she offers a 7-week class series to her clients where she teaches the first 6 weeks, then hands off the last week to a topic expert. She is considering breaking the series apart into a 6-week series and the 7th week would be available either as part of the series OR as a standalone class.

My question is this: is it possible to somehow attach the 7th week class (there will be multiple instances) to the registration form for the full series so a customer can sign up for the series and pick which instance of the 7th week class they want?

Alternately, I suppose we could generate a coupon code for the 7th week, but that's not nearly as elegant a solution, and I'm not even 100% sure events support coupon codes.

Any ideas or advice would be muchly appreciated! :)

Cheers,
DZ Chris

Hi Hershel,

Yeah, I think that would probably do the trick. I need to look at it a little closer to get my arms around it, but at first glance, it looks like it will do what I need.

Thanks for the assist!

Hey Hershel, and anybody else who might care to input,

I've finally gotten around to experimenting with sub-events. After enabling "Use Cart Checkout workflow" I set up a main event and a sub-event. I tagged the sub-event to the main event on the Conference Slots tab. However, when I run a test registration, I'm not prompted for a sub-event choice.

FOREHEAD SLAP! I think I may have just answered my own question: I've only created one sub-event. Is the system designed to assume selection of a given sub-event if there are no other choices?

Or could it be something else? Perhaps it has to do with this:

Quote
Testing
Event cart tests have been written for PhpUnit, we are in the process of merging these tests into Civi trunk.

I also noticed that when I attempted to go to civicrm/admin/conference_slots?group=conference_slot&reset=1, the system just bounced me to the main Administer CiviCRM page.

CiviCRM 4.2.8
Wordpress 3.5.1

Any advice?
Chris
