553 badly formatted address

I've recently moved civicrm from one server to another, then upgraded it from 2.2 to the latest (4.2.8 ) but I can't for the life of me get civimail to correctly send emails.
I can send test messages using mail, sendmail, and smtp on the civicrm/admin/setting screen but as soon as I go and send a test message via civimail it fails.
Watching my mail log I see the problem is that the from address is invalid (eg. no domain)

sounds like you are missing some configuration.  want to check here: http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/mailSettings?reset=1
and look here for reference: http://book.civicrm.org/user/initial-set-up/email-system-configuration

Thanks Michael,
It turned out that the issue was that I had not set up inbound email so thanks for the pointer. I was under the impression from reading the docs that inbound processing was optional, however it appears it is a requirement to have it set up in order to send email.

Aaron - do you have a little bit more detail on this? I believe I'm having a similar issue where drupal can send out mail but whenever civimail tries to send I experience this same issue. Did you have to fully configure postfix for inbound email or were you able to minimize it? Can you maybe post your postfix configuration file or an example? Thanks much, I'll be happy to update the documentation once I get it workign.
