Wordpress Access Controls have several roles including Member.  Am I correct in assuming that the role Member is the same as a CiviMember Member?

In other words, if I sell a membership in CiviMember/Contribute, and that contact is a member, would the Wordpress Access Controls member roles apply?

If so, I am confused as to why giving Member permission to join CiviEvents does not present the appropriate button to do so.

I have it set up so that anonymous users can view events but not join, and so that members can join events.  Subscribers are set so that they can not join events.  Members can contribute also.  Anonymous users can register and join and become subscribers and also not be members, so I have the ability to join events turned off for subscribers.

The reason I am doing this is to facilitate a members only, paid event. 

Thank you for the update.  I've got Role Sync installed and everything is updating properly upon next login.  If anyone knows how to make updates more automated, it would be helpful.  Can this be done with a cron job?
