From the thread, it sounded like "Your Registration Info" profile is used for the email address in the price set, but it appears it isn't.

How do I disable the "Your Email Address" within the priceset area, and thus eliminate the user's need to enter their email address twice?

I am running Joomla 2.5.11 and civiCRM 4.3.4

If preventing users from entering the address twice is your only goal, you could remove the field from the contact profile.  It will still be written to the registrant's record.
