Access Denied - on groups I created!
March 15, 2013, 11:27:31 am
I have an 'Access Denied' problem... When using the 'Admin' username, which is an administrator in Drupal, I get 'Access Denied' if I click on Contacts or Settings when managing groups.  But this is a group I have just created using the same username!  In fact I cannot access any groups at all.  Also I cannot edit ACL roles, although I can add a role to a group - but then cannot edit it!

After browsing other similar problems, I have checked the url, which is correct and also the civicrm settings file which is also OK. Drupal permissions seem to be OK as well.

Ideas?  I'm using Civi 4.28 and Drupal 7 - I've just installed the system from scratch.

I think I cracked this one myself, after an hour or two of frustration.  This is a new test system, with quite a few changes...  I could find nothing wrong with the Civi setup, but still the problem persisted.  Desperate, I cleared Civi caches and also the Drupal cache.  Still broken.  Then I tried Internet Explorer (I'm a Firefox fan) - and Civi worked perfectly!  Back to Firefox (on release 19.0.2), cleared the 350mb cache and lo! problem fixed.  This doesn't seem right at all - I guess that something got cached that should not have been (by Firefox).  Comments?

not sure if you are saying you have checked admin has all permissions in civicrm - maybe because it goes without saying - but worth saying anyhow ;-)

Sorry not sure what to suggest.
I recall an issue where creating a new group resulted in the group seeming to exist but not functioning at all

But that was on a multisite and you haven't mentioned that characteristic.

the issue then got discussed here http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,26268.0.html in case you are multisiting.

not sure if that helps - if it doesn't then hopefully someone else can chip in

Are you perhaps switching from mysite.com to www.mysite.com or vice versa?

Yeah, I think the problem was switching from mysite.com to www.mysite.com.  I guess having the 'awesome bar' in Firefox exaggerates the problem because sometimes I type a few letters in the url knowing it will bring up the required website, which can bring up either with or without the 'www'.
I wonder if this problem can somehow  be eliminated though? As they are in fact the same... I don't know enough to know how this can be fixed/avoided but it sure would be nice.

There is no solution at present to this problem. Technically speaking these are two separate domains in reality. One is the "www" subdomain.

Anyhow, the fix is to set whichever you prefer in your sites/default/civicrm.settings.php file (with or without www) and then use just that one.
