Minor (hopefully) incompatibility with Shopp eCommerce Plugin. Please help!
March 15, 2013, 04:58:12 pm
Hey guys,

I'm working on a CiviCRM Wordpress implementation for a client as part of a complete site overhaul. My client is a Childbirth Support specialist who offers classes, workshops, books, dvds and would like to add premium content at some point. We're trying to use CiviCRM as a customer database because it's far superior to the Access database they have right now, and can capture information directly from the customers.

The original intention was to capture class and workshop signups via CiviCRM (thereby feeding the signups into the database), and then handle the product sales like the books, dvds and premium content using Shopp or some other eCommerce plugin. I saw Hershel's suggestion on another thread that rather than using an eCommerce plugin, products could be "faked" by using the Premiums feature in CiviCRM. I'm not opposed to doing this, but would prefer to examine the compatibility question with Shopp, since I'm already a fair bit down this path. It's also an opportunity to make CiviCRM better, which I'm always for.  :)

So that's the context of my issue. Now the problem: when CiviCRM and Shopp are activated at the same time, pretty much everything from the editing window down disappears on the Edit Post and/or Edit Page screen (see attached screenshot). If I deactivate one or the other, I get the full editing screen back with no problem. Given where the screen breaks, I believe there is an incompatibility with the CiviCRM 'Add CiviCRM Public Pages' button that appears next to 'Add Media', and possibly a bug?

Unfortunately, the guy at the Shopp "Help Desk" (yeah, right!), could not possibly be less interested in helping me try to troubleshoot this. So I'm coming to you guys, hoping you might be able to help me figure out a solution. I would be glad to provide access to the site admin area and/or cpanel for purposes of investigation and troubleshooting, but know better than to post that information on a public board.

Anybody, please help?

Thanks!
dz Chris

In general integration problems with various plugins are kinda hard to figure out and solve

your best bet might be to use something like firebug and see if that gives you a clue on what is broken

Thanks, Lobo,

I'll check that out and see if I can spot it, more for intellectual curiosity's sake than anything else. I'm currently contemplating two different workarounds:

  • Fake the ecommerce using Premiums like Hershel suggested
  • Break the ecommerce piece off to a separate WordPress instance, residing in a subdirectory on the same server, and use a subdomain (eg. store.mysite.com) and a wildcard SSL to cover both sites, thereby isolating CiviCRM from Shopp and vice versa

I will take a look at it with firebug, just to see if I can provide any useful information as to what might be breaking. Any tips on what sort of stuff I should be looking for, specifically?

Cheers,
dz Chris

Look in the Console tab for a JS error and in the Net tab for any calls not loaded.
