Using PEAR.php v 1.9.4 instead of 1.9.0 which ships with CiviCRM

I'm having the "Cannot Redeclare PEAR.php" problem as noted in this thread: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,26524.msg112496.html

I'm using the workaround mentioned there which is to remove civicrm/packages/PEAR.php and replace it with a symlink to the PEAR.php file which was previously declared.

I noticed when I was setting this up that the PEAR file installed on my server is v. 1.9.4 whereas the one that ships with CiviCRM is 1.9.0. Will that cause any problems if I create a symlink to the 1.9.4 version on my server?

Thanks,

Shai

One way that might help you find out is to run the CiviCRM test suite on the site with the new Pear. Sometimes I think that is the answer to some of my questions as well.
It takes a bit of setup though: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Testing
