Valid Membership Statuses for Fixed Start / Fixed Period Memberships
March 18, 2013, 10:47:34 am
I am having an issue with Membership Status Rules.  I am using a Fixed Start / Fixed Period membership type.

The Fixed Period Start Day is: July 1st,  the Fixed Period Rollover Day is  June 30th.

In many cases, contacts who are attempting to renew their memberships, receive the following error:  "Oops, it looks like there is no valid membership status corresponding to the membership start and end dates for this membership. Contact the site administrator for assistance."    In this specific case, the contact's most previous membership was in the 'expired' status.

After the error, Civi proceeds to charge their card, yet does not send any follow-up emails to the admin or the contact. The contact's individual membership tab is not updated as well.

I believe the member statuses are causing this error.  The statuses I am using are as follows:

Status Name        Start Event            Start Event Adjustment         End Event          End Event Adjustment    Current Membership   Admin Only   Weight     Default       Enabled
New                        start date            [NOTHING SET]                 end date           [NOTHING SET]                      1                                       0                       1          0                    1
Current                start date            [NOTHING SET]                 end date            0 Month                              1                                       0                       2              0                     1
Grace                end date            [NOTHING SET]                 end date            0 Month                              1                                       0                        3               0                     1
Expired                start date            1 Month                                 end date            [NOTHING SET]              0                                       0                       4               0                     1
Cancelled              member since    [NOTHING SET]                 member since   [NOTHING SET]                   0                                       0                       6               0                     1

Ideally, I would like to have contacts who have 'Expired' memberships to be able to renew indefinitely, so as to limit duplicate contacts.

Thanks!

PTG

I think you have misunderstood fixed rollover. hope this clarifies

if i have a fixed 1 year membership Jan - Dec but I want people who join between Oct-Dec to get the 'next years' membership then my Fixed Rollover would be Oct 1.

So perhaps you don't need a rollover date - it certainly shouldn't be June 30 imo.

Memberships for our group are for 12-months, but always begin on July 1st and end on June 30th of the following calendar year.   So all memberships extend from one calendar year to the next.  They do not follow jan-dec calendar year.

Also, the renewal process works perfectly for most 'new' and some 'current' members.

Doesn't matter - you still don't want the Fixed Rollover Period set unless eg people who sign up in April/May/June are meant to get 13-15 months, rather than 1-3 months of membership for joining so late in the year.

ANd sorry if this is a red herring - but it would be good to get your config set correctly if you are having issues.

if you want it so someone who joins on June 29 gets only 1 day of membership - then you do not need a Rollover date imo

Pete -

but Civi requires a roll over date to be set.  some date.   It doesn't allow me to leave blank.

oh - my aoplogies - i hardly ever work with Fixed - and when I have they have always had the Rollover date several months before end of year. I didn't realise it had to be set.

Feel like we just went down a snake

Can you pls provide a summary of your Membership Status rules and/or set up demo with the same settings so we can take a look.

Trying to be helpful here  ???

Actually, your help has been great, since it forced me to re-visit everything.  Anyways, here are my newly-adjusted statuses:

Status Name      Start Event       Start Event Adjustment    End Event        End Event Adjustment
New                   member since       [NOTHING SET]             member since       30 Days
Current             start date         [NOTHING SET]                 end date             [NOTHING SET]    Default
Grace                end date           [NOTHING SET]                 end date            3 Month
Expired             end date          3 Month                          end date               3 Year
Cancelled          end date         3 Year              end date                               6 Year

My client actually got one yesterday, but the problem has been intermittent.  But,  know that  I had NOT set any of these to 'default' before your response, but now have set Current status to be default.

I also ran the member status processor in scheduled jobs.

I am holding my breath

Pete -

I think we may have fixed this issue.  The memberships have started to normalize.  I think it was the 'default' setting if I had to guess..Will keep monitoring...

Thanks for all of your insight.
