Raiser's Edge to CiviCRM
March 20, 2008, 10:46:33 am
I work for a small non profit that uses Raisers Edge. This product was purchased by a previous Exec Director and is way more work than it is worth. With all of its ridiculous add ons that you must pay for, and poor documentation and manuals, Raisers Edge has proved itself to be a huge MISTAKE!

On the brighter side of life, CiviCRM is the right size solution for our small non-profit. And I am pleased enough with it.

My question is:

Has anyone migrated any Gift and Constituent data from RE to CviCRM yet? I can't find many people that have done this, or forums that talk about this.

Does anyone have any thoughts and/org documentation help?

Thanks for your time,

twowheeler

Well, RE seems to run on MS SQL Server according to their web site.  Is that what you are using?  This would be good news, I think, since it means that the data is not hidden in some kind of proprietary format.

If the data resides in SQL tables, you should be able to look at the table structure and see your data.  I think you should also be able to export a CSV file or similar text file from SQL.  Then you can import the CSV into civicrm.  You will need to figure out how to map the RE fields to equivalent CiviCrm fields.

This will be some work, but it should be possible.  I have no experience with MS SQL Server so I can't give specific instructions but I am sure there are lots of people on the net who could help you get the export done.

Hope that helps.  Good luck.

Can you please keep this thread updated as you make progress. There have been a couple of queries on this in the past but we have not heard any projects that have made the transition. would be cool to have a few that do it and document it :)

I agree with twowheeler, except that it's easier than that.  You just use a tool that can connect to both databases and start mapping the fields.

Feel free to PM me.
