Amending end date on a recurring membership

Hi,
Possibly a very silly question but I'm stumped - if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

Scenario: current member, due to expire in November 2013, changes their payment method to a recurring contribution in Feb 2013 and is set to auto renew on an annual basis.  Membership expiration remains as November 2013 and renewal reminder will be sent. Is there anyway of amending the end date in this circumstance? Have attempted to renew but this has amended it to November 2014, despite renewing from Feb 2013.

Currently running version 4.2.1 on drupal 7.
