Advice on CIVICRM Features/Use
March 20, 2013, 12:48:58 pm
I am in the process of analyzing CRM/DRM systems for our organization and am intrigued with CIVICRM. I am looking for like organizations that raise funds for aide or missions. We raise funds to support programs such as  literacy in India, especially amongst  women.

Some of the things we do that I do not see obvious in the list of features, is we assign, track and give credit to MGO’s – (Major Gift Officers). These are assigned solicitors for a partner. We want to track specific gifts credited primarily and secondarily to a (MGO) fundraiser. We want to track the amount raised by fundraiser, who is was raised from and in relation to the fundraisers goal.

Have you used CIVICRM for this?

Who are the larger organizations that use CIVICRM in the US? This would help decide if it is capable for an organization our size.

Thank YOU..

Hi Gary,

I can do not know about US organizations as we are based in The Netherlands and really only deal with European customers. I can roughly picture what you want, I am not familiar enough with the donation process to judge if that is completely possible as you might want it. I would strongly recommend you prototype it, and pay specific attention to CiviContribute and CiviCampaign.
I do know that there is a Dutch organization evaluating CiviCRM at the moment, and one of their requirement is to be able to track a donation or pledge through activities and cases, so they can see what has happened with a donation they received. This sounds vaguely familiar and I can see some similarities.

Interesting functionality!

Sounds like you need a Referral program, like Ubercart has. You could use Ubercart for that in reality. For CiviCRM, it sounds like you would need to write custom code to set a cookie based on the MGO associated with each donor, presuming each has a unique URL they give to their people.

That would bring Gary full circle ;-)

(back story) He had talked to an Ambassador (Max), they shared his question with Erik and I due to our CiviCase experience. As the story unfolded I recommended he came on to the forum

And as far as CiviCase goes, you might have a play with the MGO as a case coordinator for a case type to get money in. That would give you the required reporting capabilities? But I do certainly not feel comfortable enough to say: this is how it is done....Prototype!
