incorrect member renewal date due to grace period
March 21, 2013, 05:37:44 pm

We have a 2 week grace period with no membership on our site.  We have found that if someone pays for their membership during this grace period that Civi only starts their new membership from the date that the old/existing membership ended rather than on the date that the contribution transaction occurred.

For example:

John signed up for a 1 year membership from January 1st 2012 until December 31st 2012.   We allow for a 2 week grace period at the end of the membership.  John renews his membership on January 10th 2013 and finds out that his membership will expire on December 31st 2013.   Therefore he has lost almost 2 weeks of membership because Civi started the renewal based on the existing membership rather than on the date he made his contribution.

Is there a way that this can be fixed?  Can I get Civi to start memberships when the contribution is made rather than as a simple extension of the existing membership?  I ask because our members are losing part of what they are paying for and we have to manually adjust each and every membership manually.

Thanks

That is how the Grace period is configured to work.

If you want people to get their membership kicking off again from their renew date, then you might need to look at either shortening you Grace period - or seeing if you can incorporate another Membership status between Grace and Expired that is treated as if it is 'expired'

not sure if that hhelps
