Some of our members only want to receive certain types of emails from our organization.

Some other organizations have a subscription management page, where the user can select which topics they want to receive mailings about and which ones not.

Is something like this available or being contemplated?

What CMS are you using? In Drupal, this is available at SITE_ROOT/civicrm/mailing/subscribe.

You can also add the groups field to a profile to acheive something similar.
