SMTP Setup Screen - Tool Tips
March 21, 2008, 05:59:52 am
SMTP Setup is clearly a sticking point for a lot of people.  There should be some kind of help on the SMTP Setup screen, as to what the username might be, where to find it, whether it's just an old user, whether it changes for cPanel, for example, etc.

Thanks,
Ken

Would be great for you to write up more detailed smtp help and add to the wiki and also for the tooltip.

we are following up on the awful tooltip behavior with the dojotoolkit folks and hope to patch and fix it in a future 2.0.x release

OK, This is not my deal...if it were, I would already have done it...

I added this to the SMTP page:  http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Outbound+Email+%28SMTP%29

In 2.0, this seems to be just the bare password, for example if your email address is admin@domain.com, just put admin here.  It seems that this can be any valid email account on the domain, and doesn't have to be any special user, like the cPanel administrator for the domain, but that is not clear....

which is all I know, from the one successful experiment I've managed.
