Joomla 1.0.14 and Civi 2.01 - Invalid Key
March 21, 2008, 06:06:44 am
This is ridiculous.

I have been hours now trying to get a Contribute page to work in 2.10 under Joomla 1.0.14

I have stripped everything out, no Honor Of, no Membership, no Receipting.  I have tried Dummy, PayPal (Standard), and Google Checkout, per the instructions.

I have a 2.0 Beta 1 install under Drupal where the sample contribute page works perfectly with my PayPal account, and I have tried to mirror those settings, with no success.

Is there a secret decoder ring somewhere for these backtraces?

Thanks,
Ken

Did you implement step 2 in these instructions: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Configuring+Front-end+Contact+Dashboard+in+Joomla%21+Sites

Most likely not.

Wow, Thanks!.

How would/should I have known to do that?  Configuring a Front-End Contact Dashboard doesn't actually sound like the most intuitive thing that I might want to do.

I did follow the Additional Resources link for Contribute pages at the bottom of the Install instructions of 2.0 for Joomla....so I was paying some attention...

How does one nominate Additional Resources, or is Confluence flexible enough to allow creating a new category, i.e. NEXT STEPS

AND/OR:

Since the Civi installer is privy to the fact that it's running in a Joomla 1.0.x environment, couldn't the conclusion of the installer run be the  display of some helpful information like "don't forget to......."

Lots of other components do this, when they have dependencies, or there are optional components, etc.

These seem like some of the "missing links" :) to getting us evolving users ramped up...

Thanks,
Ken

the installer actually does that and gives you the link to the wiki documentation on how to setup front end links in joomla

Unfortunately most people tend to skip reading the stuff and then raise it on the forums :( We need to figure out how to better organize the documentation and how to convince users to spend a few minutes perusing it and getting an overall idea of things

Drat!  I don't want to be one of *those* people...

YEP.  I just did another install, just to see what you were talking about....the third point...
"CiviCRM includes the ability to expose Profile forms and listings, as well as Online Contribution Pages, to users and visitors of the 'front-end' of your Joomla! site. If you wish to use this option, you will need to follow the instructions for modifying your Joomla! installation."

OK, the first thing it says: "If this is a new installation of CiviCRM, please review the online installation documentation."   Well, If I am looking at the Success! screen, do I really have reason to think that I need the Installation instructions?  Nope.

Then, the second thing, "if this is an upgrade"...Not relevant to a new install.

After skipping 2, I am less likely to notice the third, which is worded pretty casually for a mission critical feature.

Can the requirement to hack the index.php be put first, with some Importance Graphic like on: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Configuring+Front-end+Profile+Listings+and+Forms+in+Joomla%21+Sites ?

Better yet, can it be done automatically?  The installer should be running with some permissions, since only a Super Admin can run it.
If "some people" don't read instructions...

Thanks,
Ken

On a related note, the specific related instructions for online contribution page configuration in Joomla! is on the wiki under the "Including Contribution Pages in Sites" section:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Displaying+Online+Contribution+Pages+in+Joomla%21+Frontend+Sites

The wiki is editable by anyone who signs up for an account - so it would be great if you add links, tips, emphasized notes etc. in other spots where you think they're needed to make finding this info easier. The whole "mess" of needing to do this goes away with Joomla! 1.5+ - so that's good news for all starting w/ CiviCRM 2.1.

OK, I've made a slightly ugly, but hard to miss, edit and link within the Joomla instructions.  The Contrib page is no longer just an "Additional Resource", but a "Vital, Critical mod for 1.0.x" per the tooltip.

Now I would say it's more fair to ask whether the install instructions have been followed.  I have often printed that page and used it as a checklist - hopefully, this helps.

Thanks, Gents!
Ken
