Searching contributions by contribution id

I'd like to be able to search a contribution by contribution id. I've been able to add a column in search results that includes the contribution id. But would like to add the search functionality to the already existing "Find Contributions" page. Has anyone done something similar??

In 4.3, your best bet would be to extend the quick search bar to also include contribution id.

i dont know how extensible that code is (was contributed by MTL), but would be good to make it extensibe and allow folks to add specific fields for their install
