Bounced e-mails and opt-out/unsubscribe issue ...
March 21, 2008, 08:23:38 pm
We're having a few weird issues using CiviMail  (CiviCRM version CiviCRM 1.9.13019).  We're testing out our e-newsletter on a smaller test group of 3 e-mails:

1) When we send it out immediately to these 3 addresses, 2 of them bounce.  First, I tried sending to my gmail, yahoo and work e-mails.  the work e-mail to ...fcps.org went.  The gmail and yahoo bounced.  CiviCRM's error report stated unknown reason for bounce.  Then I deleted one of the gmails and added another gmail account that I have.  This time the e-mail got through to the gmail and bounced to my fcps.  Weird!  Any suggestions?

2) The optout and unsubscribe tokens are working (the URL tokens) and when I click on them in the e-mail message they open up our Web site.  however it's a Drupal site and it just goes to an ACCESS DENIED page.  It only goes to the correct unsubscribe page or opt out page if I'm logged into my Drupal account.  We obviously don't want them to have to  be logged in for it to work.  suggestions??

3) Finally the e-mails only get sent when I send them immediately and run the mailing/queue.  They don't go if I schedule them . I'm thinking it's a server timezone issue since I've read a bunch of support on this site about that.  How can I find out the server timezone via PHP on our server?  We're running Apache and PHP 5.2.

Thanks in advance!!

1. can you check your mail server logs. They'll have more detailed information as to why the emails failed

2. You need to give drupal permissing to acess optout/unsubscribe/subscribe pages to anon users to get the behavior you need

3. Did u add the cron script to your crontab entry. mailings are scheduled and sent via the cron script

Thanks so much for the suggestions!  I will check the mail server logs.

I tweaked the access control for CiviCRM unsubscribe and opt out messages, so that should work now.  thanks for reminding me of that!

For the cron script, is this the location of the script?

http://www.example.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/bin/civimail.cronjob.php?name=USERNAME&pass=PASSWORD

This is per the CiviMail documentation.  Is the username and password the user/pass of my Drupal admin user?

So as soon as I schedule the mailing, I should go to the URL above correct?  (obviously with my Web site address in place of example.com)

Does this sound correct?

Thanks!

u should add that to your cron script for your account. If u r unsure about cron etc, do a web search for man pages etc. You should not have to do this manually whenever u schedule a mailing (its error prone).
