Joomla, CiviCRM, Google apps single signin, synchronised passwords?
April 06, 2013, 10:27:09 am
Hi, Im just starting to investigate CiviCRM for our association - we run our site on Joomla and have been using components for events registration & payment, forums, social, photos,  blog, membership fees , email newsletters etc . I understand that civiCRM integrates with joomla and links to joomla user tables, but it's not clear from anything I can find whether signing into joomla will sign you into CiviCRM also - I saw some post mentioning that users have to manually set the same passwords, is that true?

We want to retain a single username/password ,keeping lots of joomla functionality but migrate memberships, event registration and email newsletters to CiviCRM. Is this possible?

Also, I'd like to integrate with google apps - so using the same users/sign on for all three would be ideal. Does anyone know if this is  possible with CiviCRM/Joomla/google apps ?

Many thanks,
Aidan

CiviCRM does not have its own login system. it relies on the host CMS for this, in this case joomla. a logged in joomla user is recognized by civicrm

u'll need to investigate and check options on how to integrate the google apps login and joomla login. Civi is fine as long as the user is logged in according to joomla

Many thanks Donald, that clears up a big misconception for me. If it piggybacks on Joomla user registration/login that suits me fine. Sounds good !
I'll check the Google apps separately, it's really a joomla question.
