Definition of "mapping"?

I try to translate the CiviCRM into Hungarian, I stuck with the "mapping", I could not find a definition for this phrase in civi environment. To find the best translation I need some help.

If understand correctly the mapping happens when importing external data into civi. When the imported data fileds put into civi data model fields.

It is correct?

. "Mapping" refers to the activity of taking existing data that was labeled in a certain way and "slotting" it into a CiviCRM structure.

Could you add some synonym here?

Hi,

Good luck in the translation, it's hard to do it right.

mapping is to say that the column "surname" in your csv will end up in the field "last_name" in civi, or the column "organisation" will be put in the current employer.

kind of "conversion" or "translation" or "association". try to create a csv and import it, it will show you the workflow where you find it.
