events - emailing the attendee's relations
April 11, 2013, 08:37:20 pm
Hi!  -We're thinking of using the CiviCRM Event feature for summer camps.  So parents would be signing their kids up for camp, and would need to be able to sign up each of their kids for different programs/events.  And we'd need to be able to email the parents, instead of the kids who are the actual event attendees, of all kids in a specific camp.  Additionally we'd need to be able to specify which parent(s) get emailed - defaulting to the parent who signed the kid up would work fine.

Is that achieving that straightforward and doable?

Also, any insight on using the event feature for long-term programs and camps in general, I'd really appreciate.

Thanks!!!

Hello,

Did you see http://civicrm.org/blogs/lhubbert/camp-registration-streamlining-webform-civi-integration

Pretty sure that a few people have had success using CiviCRM to do this.  http://woolman.org/ also have experience using CIviCRM to do this.

If you are able to talk to some of those people in person / phone / email that might be the best way to see if there will be any bumps along the way with your specific use cae.

I'd use webform-civicrm for the registration process. Have it create a household with the parent's email address as the email address of the household and then it add the members to the household. The new version of webform can handle taking money and registering for the events. When you want to send email send to the households instead of individuals and the emails will always go to the parent that registered the child(ren)
