Can you edit a contact if there are required fields on an unused profile?
April 19, 2013, 02:55:01 pm
I'm sure I'm missing something basic here.
Lets say we create an "application" profile that people can fillout and it has required fields.  If you go to edit ANY record, the profile field is required (even if you limit to a group!)
1. create a profile with a required fields
2. go to edit user (say change name.)
3. Unable to edit unless profile has required field.

Is that right?

RESOLVED: Edit a contact if there are required fields on an unused profile?

My issue was that the field had required checked but it should have been checked only for the profile.

Are you talking about a custom field?
In general you should not mark a custom field as required unless you want it to be required everywhere.
To only require it on certain profiles you can just make it required on the profile.

Thanks - Yes, that was my error.  I was answering my own question for the possible benefit of others.

Just a note that there are fields I like to have as mandatory so when they go on a profile they are mandatory by default.
