Compiling changes to campaign/survey/petition functions in 4.4 and beyond
April 29, 2013, 05:23:54 pm
Please take a look at the wiki, where a page has been created to compile proposed changes to CiviCampaign.
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Campaigns

Some highlights:
  • Get rid of the distinction between surveys and petitions
  • Make campaigns enabled independently of surveys and engagement index
  • Improved reports of campaigns and filtering by campaign
You can find me at AGH Strategies.

Hi,

Yeap, "civi survey" means offline and "civi petition" means online and folks get lot in "english to civi" translation.

About the "Send email to decision-maker" They have been various requests related to campaigning for more action type "send an email to your xxx".  eg send an email to the CEO of nestlé about milk powder, your senator about ...

It can be done easily by a hook at the end of the online signature (what we call petition), and should be easy to find the right email to spam based on the zip code, let the visitor change the text message...

However to make is as an extension (as the logic to choose the decision-maker can be quite specific, would make sense IMO), it would be easier to be able to be able to create and use new activity types.

On the wiki, it's not clear if you can handle more type of activity beside the listed ones (walklist...). Would it work?

In general, the type of campaign ("offline survey" vs. "petition" vs. "walklist" ...) is more or less defined by the activity type. Separating the two would need a change in the data model I think (to handle tim's "mode"), but would be worthwhile and more flexible.

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place for this post, but I would really like to have the ability to Reserve Respondents for Surveys from the Advanced Search action options.  Right now, you can only reserve respondents from a unique form that has few options other than reserving by group or a few geographic fields.  This adds an extra step, as we have to create a special group any time we want to Reserve Respondents to survey a particular subset of our contacts that is not necessarily geographical.  It would be much more convenient to just select the contacts we want to survey using Advanced Search, and reserve them, without any extra steps.

I talked to Alice Aguilar about this at CiviCon and she seemed to think it would be doable (or had already been done?) but I don't know how to find out if anyone is working on it or if there's anything I could do to make it happen.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide...

Leslie

just thinking around a better approach to reserving/allocating people to be surveyed - we were thinking about going down a Views VBO approach to try the concept.

Would be very nice to avoid creating dependencies on Drupal as CMS for group reservation functionality. I'm finding that WordPress has significant traction over Drupal for campaigns due to its simpler admin requirements.

AMEN! The confusion about the use of the word campaign, survey, petition, walklist, etc is mighty unuser friendly.
I've covered this in this rant: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,28220.msg120903.html#msg120903
