Collecting data to compile into a report - user adds data
April 29, 2013, 09:26:35 pm
Hi Joomla folks,

An organisation I'm working with wants to allow their staff/volunteers to send in their annual reports of what they've been up to, via CiviCRM.

If it was Drupal I'd use the CiviCRM/Webform functionality, however this doesn't seem to be available for Joomla. (Is it on the horizon? How big a job is it?)

I thought we could possibly use Activities with Custom Data and create a Self-report Activity type. However this doesn't allow the users to add the data themselves.

If the Activity type Self-report had an interface for logged in users, this would make it possible.

Any thoughts on how to do this? There is budget for development - some guidance on the best way to achieve this to fit in with what the community needs would be awesome.

cheers
Ryan

1. webform civicrm functionality for joomla is not in the short or medium term horizon. Its a fairly large project, though we are moving towards that with profile improvements. If we get an org willing to sponsor a developer or two for 3-6 months, it can be pulled into an earlier release :)

2. You might want to check the survey functionality. This basically allows you to give users the ability to edit activity records and custom data

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Re 2., I can't work out how to use the survey functionality to allow end users to create activities and save that data. Could someone please point me towards help or instructions?

I have found the setup docs for offline surveys:
http://book.civicrm.org/user/current/survey/setup/

This would not involve phone calls or walklists but would be all online.
