I'm looking for anything to suggest who CiviCRM's primary target audiences is?

At CiviCON, marketing was highlighted as something that needs more people to volunteer to help with, which I have and am now reviewing the marketing pages here and on the wiki so I can help build on them.

Whilst I couldn't attend the after conference sprint I was able to do a solo marketing sprint on my long flight home, but what I can't find is any data or anecdotes on the target audience.

DEMOGRAPHICS:

• Age
• Gender
• Geo
• Income
• Work
• Language
• Political affiliation
• etc

Is this important? It can be, for example, if we found that a substantial number of our users were older, it might mean we would increase the font size on our website to cater for them.

Perhaps an organisation with a similar profile such as NTEN has data on their own audience that would give me some direction?
