As part of 4.3 debugging I found that even in 4.2 some custom contribution fields do not work in the bulk contribution entry.
Issue #2: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-12061

I patched a 4.2 with this simple patch and it's been working well for about 3 weeks now.

I suggest this patch be backported.  If seconded by the opinion of another member, I will make the PR.

Stoob - it seems to me that where it is

1) clearly a bug
2) fixed in 4.3
3) tested in production
4) a simple fix or one that you understand clearly

It may make sense for you to go ahead & do the PR on the basis that most PRs that fit that criteria would seem acceptable
