Autocomplete fields in batch update
May 07, 2013, 05:43:53 pm

Hi -- currently Civi doesn't allow batch updates to fields that are type Autocomplete. Are there any plans to change this? It would be really helpful to be able to include my custom autocomplete fields in a batch update.

I also want to be able to include the Soft Credit autocomplete contact lookup field in a profile, in order to use it for batch updates to contributions (though I'm not sure if these are two different issues).

Thanks.

That would be nice to have functionality.  I am not aware of any plans to change that - did you check the issue tracker for any issues that relate to this.  IMO it would be nice to have it acknowledged on the 'road map' at least.

that sounds more complicated now that you can have multiple soft credits per contribution :) - I guess you probably want to talk to a soft credit sprint person about that.

Eliet - I've added support for Soft Credit Name and Amount in Batch Update to the phase 2 soft credit list so it's "on the radar". Your question also led me to check on soft credit functionality related to Batch Data Entry. 4.3 supports specifying a soft credit contact - so it makes sense to include support for soft credit amount in the phase 1 work. I've added that to the wiki page and we'll include it based on successful funding of phase 1 make-it-happen.

The more general question of support for auto-complete fields in batch update hasn't come up (that I'm aware of) - but could potentially be included in a phase 2 MIH.

Hi Dave, thanks for the info. It definitely makes sense to me to enable entering a Soft Credit Amount in Batch Data Entry. Would it also be possible to enter more than one Soft Credit contact/amount in Batch Data Entry, or does that go in the Phase 2 plan?

And I'd love to see this functionality in Batch Contribution Update, since managing online gifts through batch updates is a great time saver.

For anyone interested in improvements to soft credit functionality, please check out the latest on the 4.4 MIH: http://civicrm.org/blogs/jongold/civicrm-sprinters-push-soft-credit-improvements-forward
