Dedupe between organisations and individuals

Hi,

A client of ours has asked about whether it's possible to run duplicate contact rules that span organisations as well as individuals. The main case that they want to search for is where an individual and an organisation have the same email address. I don't see a way to use a dedupe rule across different contact types, but maybe I'm missing something. Is this possible, or shall I instead see about creating a report or even just running a query directly on the civicrm_email table to produce a list of contacts that share an email address?

You'll need to do this via the custom report / search

might also want to check if u can merge a individual and an organization

Currently organizations and individuals cannot be merged, afaik.
It can be done with direct sql statements, but be careful with this. In most cases you'd want to add an "employee" relationship between the individual and the org, not merge them into a single record.

One "use-case" of a merge between organization and individual is if you're processing inbound emails to activities - imagine that an inbound email came from an email address associated with an organization; CiviCRM right now only seems to check against individuals, doesn't find one, so it creates a new contact.
