Is CivicRM right for the following scenario.

I have a Drupal 7 install.  Currently I have a the Migrate module installed, and every so often I run a migration that imports a CSV of user information into a Profile2 setup ( this info is collected from members who mailed in a registration form).  Once the users are created/updated, they will need the ability to login, view/download members only PDFs, renew annual memberships, sign up for events etc.

I also need to ability for visitors to be able to sign up, get activated, and become a member via the website. From time to time, these users will need to be exported to a CSV file in the same format as the CSV mentioned in the previous paragraph.

I've read the documentation stating that Drupal users are synchronized with CivicRM users, so it looks like the Import from CVS->Drupal Profile2 migration I have set up will work, my question is whether or not I can get an export of those members that signed up online.

CiviCRM + the included CiviCRM Member Roles module supports all the functionality you've described 'out of the box'. You can find / export member data to CSV format based on flexible search criteria etc. Might want to browse the user guide - esp the Membership section.

can I add another similar question: i have a need for a member to be assigned a role based on admin approval - ie if member-role = A then fine, let them continue to payment & sign-up, but if they request member-role = B then a site admin must approve their membership before they see any payment request.

@billa https://drupal.org/project/civicrm_prereq_check might work for what you are trying to do.

@kreynan thanks, will look in more detail but it appears to be Event-focused rather than membership?
