Membership Status Rules for different departments of organization
May 12, 2013, 10:18:54 pm
Each unit (department) of my organization has different rules for Membership Status. The departments are library, gym, swimming pool. Users needs to subscribe to membership of each to use the facility.
To solve this I have created different Membership Types for each facility.
But, each of these units(departments) has different rules for 'Grace' period.

In CiviCRM the same Membership Status rules apply for all/any Membership Types.
Is there a way I can set different status rules for each type of Membership? Or just the Grace rule?

afraid not - that is not possible out of the box.

Just to double check, have you assigned these different membership types to a different organistion?  The CiviCRM membership model is based on their only being one membership per organisation so you might encounter difficulties when you are trying to assign, e.g. a gym and library membership to the same contact if the organisation of that membership is the same organisation.

This gives me hope. Is there a workaround if not possible out of the box?

Yes- I have created new organization and associated a membership type to it. So Gym has Gym membership and Library has library membership. A contact(individual) can any number of membership. Organization offers only one membership.
Will this work fine on CiviCRM?

Hey there,

I don't know of a work around, I'm afraid. What are your different grace periods / status rules? If you give more details about what you want to do with these membership statuses, that *might* give people some ideas for how to work around this, but you might have to live with it for the moment.

If you have a budget for development, you could always look at funding development of this functionality. Let me know if you would like to go down that path.
